Our Mission

“As a writer you try to listen to what others aren’t saying…and write about the silence.” -N.R. Hart

The Looking Glass Review’s mission and promise is to delve an insightful and supportive eye into the heartbroken poems you write in the dead of night, the passionate (hopefully coherent) rants produced at the dinner table, the prose thoughtfully written, stemming from your heart, or maybe those hollow part of your mind, the photos taken for impromptu beauty and art created when life feels too full, or too empty. We encourage writers to paint monologues of emotions unexplored and to put forth a looking glass to the world. Everything is your muse, including yourself. Wander to and fro, experiencing the lovely and mesmerizing theater of every day, feel those salty tears, those sputtering laughs, and pounding hearts. Write till your pen runs dry, write till you feel content, or write till you can bleed no more. Write, even if you have never written before.

Don't be shy, peer through that looking glass.

From every reader, comes out a natural, or perhaps improved writer. Reading can help one explore a plethora of different writing styles, and maybe help one acquire new insights/ideas, into life even. For example, Jane Austen and Fyodor Dostoevsky both write beautifully, but the essence of their works are worlds away from similar. Tear open books and feast on words, live in new realities, you will never regret it. Delve into new literature/art with thorough recommendations and suggestions thoughtfully curated by The Looking Glass Review.

“Read a thousand books and your words will flow like a river” -Virginia Woolf

Voices of different walks of life, voices that have the potential to change lives, often hide away from common intimidation, or even possibly no access to an outlet for their work, most likely no short of a masterpiece. Rest assured that every single writer or artist, even some of the greatest who already have created their magnum opus, started somewhere. The Looking Glass Review hopes this message sends some waves of certainty toward you to softly drown out doubt.
